Accessibility Specialist Job Description

The Accessibility Specialist will be the end-to-end owner of accessibility delivery for enterprise clients. This includes auditing, testing, remediation, document/PDF accessibility, and compliance reporting.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct automated & manual audits for websites, portals, LMS, documents (Word, PowerPoint, PDFs), and multimedia content.
  2. Perform real-user accessibility testing with screen readers (JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, TalkBack), keyboard-only navigation, and mobile responsiveness.
  3. Remediate: Provide clear, prioritized fixes and hands-on remediation support for PDFs & Office documents (tagging, structure, alt text, headings, forms, reading order), Videos & multimedia (captioning, transcripts, audio descriptions), Third-party platforms & LMS content.
  4. Guide developers on accessible coding practices (ARIA, semantic HTML, CSS, JavaScript).
  5. Prepare VPATs/ACRs and client-facing accessibility conformance documentation.
  6. Advise clients on ADA, Section 508, WCAG 21/22, and emerging US/state accessibility laws.
  7. Support quarterly monitoring & ongoing compliance programs.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge of WCAG 21/22, ADA Title II/III, Section 504/508.
  • Hands-on experience with JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, TalkBack, Axe, WAVE, SiteImprove, Adobe Acrobat Pro.
  • Proficiency in HTML5, ARIA, CSS3, JavaScript (React/Angular a plus).
  • Strong documentation/reporting skills (audit findings, VPAT/ACR).
  • Experience supporting federal, state, or higher education contracts preferred.

Preferred Certifications:

  • IAAP CPWA (Certified Professional in Web Accessibility).
  • IAAP WAS (Web Accessibility Specialist).
  • IAAP ADS (Accessible Document Specialist).
  • DHS Section 508 Trusted Tester.
  • IAAP CPACC (Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies).
