Job Title: Patent Drafting and Prosecution Leader

This is a leadership role in a growing patent drafting and prosecution practice. The successful candidate will lead a team of experienced professionals in preparing high-quality patent applications, responding to office actions, and providing expert advice on patentability, prosecution, and portfolio development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Patent Drafting & Prosecution:
  • Draft high-quality patent applications in US, EP, and India.
  • Prepare and review responses to office actions from the USPTO, EPO, and Indian Patent Office.
  • Ensure all work meets jurisdiction-specific legal and technical requirements.
  • Team Management:
  • Lead and mentor a team of 3-4 Sr. Associates/Associates on drafting and prosecution assignments.
  • Review drafts prepared by team members, providing detailed feedback to improve quality.
  • Oversee project timelines, workload distribution, and delivery commitments.
  • Client Engagement:
  • Collaborate with inventors, in-house counsel, and R&D teams to capture technical inventions.
  • Provide strategic advice on patentability, prosecution, and portfolio development.
  • Maintain strong client communication and ensure client satisfaction.
  • Quality & Process Development:
  • Establish and implement best practices for patent drafting and prosecution.
  • Provide training and mentorship to team members for professional growth.
  • Continuously improve processes for efficiency, accuracy, and scalability.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science/Information Technology/Engineering (preferred).
  • Law degree (desirable).
  • Patent agent qualification (must)
  • Experience:
  • 5-8 years of experience in patent drafting and prosecution with a law firm or IP services company.
  • Hands-on experience in drafting patent applications and preparing responses to office actions for US, EP, and India.
  • Prior experience in managing patent professionals or leading projects.
  • Skills & Competencies:
  • Strong understanding of patent laws and prosecution practices across US, EP, and India.
  • Excellent technical and legal drafting skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage, mentor, and review work of junior team members.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Client-facing experience with global stakeholders.
