Data entry operators play a vital role in maintaining accurate and up-to-date records for companies. As the importance of business data continues to grow, organizations seek individuals with exceptional attention to detail to perform this task efficiently.
About the Role
The primary responsibility of a data entry operator is to accurately enter important company data into electronic formats. This involves preparing, compiling, and sorting documents before entering data, verifying its integrity by comparing it to source documents, and resolving any discrepancies that may arise.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepares and sorts documents for data entry, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
- Verifies and logs receipt of data to maintain record accuracy.
- Transcribes source data into required electronic formats using various software applications.
- Transfers information from paper formats into computer files using keyboards, data recorders, or optical scanners.
- Performs high-volume data entry tasks using word processing, spreadsheet, database, or other computer software.
- Verifies data integrity by comparing it to source documents.
- Reviews data for errors, missing pages, or missing information and resolves any discrepancies.
- Maintains a filing system and protects confidential customer information.
- Performs regular backups to ensure data preservation.
- Responds to requests to retrieve data from the database or electronic filing system.
- Utilizes basic office equipment, such as photocopy machines and facsimile machines.
- Maintains a satisfactory level of quality and productivity per department standards.
Requirements
To excel as a data entry operator, you should possess excellent attention to detail, be able to multitask effectively, and have strong written and verbal communication skills. Additionally, you should be comfortable working independently with minimal supervision and be able to perform repetitive tasks with a high degree of accuracy. A high school diploma or equivalent is typically required, with an associate's degree preferred but not necessary. Prior experience in data entry or equivalent training is also beneficial, along with the ability to type at least 40 words per minute and proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word.
Estimated Salary Range: $35,000 - $45,000 per year.
