Naval Architecture Expert

We seek a seasoned Naval Architecture Expert to spearhead the development of digital solutions for container shipping.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyzing operational data from container ships, including historical records, noon reports, EEXI reports, and HF data.
  • Conceptualizing and building digital twins of large container vessels, encompassing new and existing ships in the fleet.
  • IDentifying relevant data required for constructing container ship digital twins.
  • Providing domain expertise to guide data scientists in developing digital twin models.
  • Developing digital twin models that incorporate fuel performance curves, vessel hydrodynamic stability, safety thresholds for adverse weather conditions, power decomposition, and other necessary models.
  • Modeling the impact of windage, vessel speed, drift, trim, heel, hull condition, propeller condition, engine condition, wave effects, wind effects, currents, and other parameters influencing fuel consumption.
  • Creating derived parameters like trim, metacentric height, windage, etc., from various data sources.
  • Developing tactical solutions to prevent parametric and synchronous rolling, including alerting stakeholders with recommended actions.
  • Establishing best practices for sharing vessel digital twin models for weather-based re-routing when necessary.
  • Designing AI/ML solutions recommending optimal vessel speed, overconsumption alerts, fouling margins, etc.
  • Visualizing vessel digital twins for end-users as per project requirements.
  • Identifying process improvements, statutory guidelines, updates, benchmarking (when necessary) in mentioned areas.

Requirements:

  • 12-20 years of experience in naval architecture, encompassing ship design, vessel digital twin development, fuel performance curves, etc., for reputable shipping companies or service providers catering to the shipping industry.
  • At least 5 years of hands-on experience in conceptualizing and building container vessel fuel consumption curves and other ship hydrodynamic performance models.
  • Practical experience in creating or running solutions like vessel digital twins, vessel hydrodynamic simulations, etc.
  • Strong appreciation and/or experience in data science subjects – simulation, optimization, ML models, etc., relevant to delivering results.
  • Excellent consulting skills – leadership in uncertain and ambiguous situations, problem-solving, and troubleshooting abilities, solution design thinking.
  • Exceptional communication skills – spoken, written, and client-facing roles.
  • Ability to lead teams in developing analytics solution blueprints addressing client problems, balancing business context and technical details.
  • Capacity to analyze pros-and-cons of diverse analytic options in the context of multiple business challenges, articulating such choices to technical and business audiences.
  • Capability to craft compelling stories from data/model outputs to convey insights to business stakeholders, driving acceptance and adoption of recommended actions.
  • Confidence in interacting with Director/VP-level stakeholders, demonstrating executive presence in interactions with CXO-level stakeholders.
