About this Role:

Job Description

The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing the financial performance of a portfolio of commercial properties, ensuring compliance with lender, tax, and investor requirements.

This includes working closely with 3rd party property teams who manage day-to-day accounting operations using MRI, as well as collaborating with other members of Accounting and various stakeholders.

  • Manage overall property level accounting, including review and approval of financial reports, budgets, and reconciliations.
  • Oversee 3rd party property teams, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and proper accounting practices.
  • Administer cash management, including weekly check fundings and loan compliance.
  • Prepare unaudited financial reports and provide comprehensive audit support.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • 5-8 years of property accounting experience, preferably in commercial real estate.
  • Familiarity with Funds and/or Joint Ventures, fair value GAAP, tax accounting, IFRS, TRS (Taxable REIT Subsidiaries), tenant recoveries (CAM), and waterfall calculations.
  • Experience with year-end audits, financial statement preparation, and footnotes.
  • Ability to work independently, communicate effectively, and multitask/prioritize tasks.
  • Proficiency with financial software systems and Microsoft Windows applications, with MRI experience an asset.

Key Responsibilities

  • Joint Venture Accounting: Review and comply with operating agreements, prepare financial reporting on a consolidation or combined level, including audited financial statements with footnotes.
  • Acquisitions: Work with Acquisitions team to review diligence materials, settlement statements, estoppels, and opening entries.
  • Dispositions: Respond to Buyer diligence requests, prepare prorations, estoppels, and closing entries, including gain/loss calculation.
