As a pioneering figure in the realm of Developer Relations, you will play a pivotal role in bridging the gap between our organization and the open-source community.

We are seeking an accomplished Developer Relations Engineer to spearhead our efforts in engaging directly with open-source communities and developer-centric organizations. This individual will be responsible for communicating our vision and products to foster better open-source development experiences while also providing a conduit for feedback from these audiences to shape our offerings and priorities.

A Developer Relations Engineer is a multifaceted professional who combines technical expertise with exceptional diplomacy and communication skills. This position demands a deep empathy for developers, strategic thinking, and an insatiable curiosity to continually improve the way things are done. The ideal candidate will be a problem-solver, inventor, and collaborator who can adapt tools to meet diverse needs while staying abreast of emerging technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in team product meetings to contribute insight and expertise at various levels
  • Maintain conversations with developer community members across various platforms
  • Collaborate with colleagues in other teams to establish consistency and commonality
  • Help resolve technical issues identified by users or colleagues
  • Contribute to technical documentation to ensure developer needs are met
  • Develop technical articles, presentations, and workshops
  • Identify opportunities for improvement in the developer experience we provide
  • Present at conferences, meetups, and technical events

Requirements

  • Strong programming background with a passion for open-source software
  • Experience working with real-world challenges developing and deploying software using Linux
  • Practical hands-on experience with Linux software packaging (Snaps, debs, charms, rocks, PIP, containers)
  • Understanding of current software packaging issues and trends in the Linux ecosystem
  • Contributor to open-source communities, software, and documentation
  • Effective communicator and presenter
  • Ability to work tactfully and empathetically in contexts with diverse perspectives
  • Builds trust, relationships, and confidence
  • Willingness to travel globally twice a year for company events and upstream/partner events
