Database Administrator Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Database Administrator to lead our database efforts. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining secure, scalable, and highly available database solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement database architectures that meet business requirements
  • Develop and maintain database security controls, including encryption, access controls, and auditing
  • Monitor and optimize database performance through indexing, query tuning, and storage management
  • Lead capacity planning, disaster recovery strategy, and backup/restore processes
  • Collaborate with development, DevOps, and infrastructure teams to support software releases and schema changes

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field
  • 7+ years of hands-on experience in database administration, design, and performance tuning
  • Expertise in SQL Server, with working knowledge of other RDBMS (PostgreSQL, Oracle, MySQL)
  • Strong proficiency in T-SQL, stored procedures, and performance analysis tools
  • Experience with HA/DR solutions (e.g., AlwaysOn Availability Groups, Log Shipping, Replication)
  • Solid understanding of database security, compliance (e.g., PII, PCI), and role-based access control
  • Proficient in automation scripting (e.g., PowerShell, Python, or Bash)
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and integrating DB changes into DevOps workflows
  • Experience in cloud-based database platforms (e.g., Azure SQL, AWS RDS) is a strong plus
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently and in a team setting
  • Experience with database monitoring tools (e.g., Redgate, SolarWinds) preferred
  • Knowledge of NoSQL systems (e.g., Cosmos DB, MongoDB, Redis) is a plus
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements in the financial services industry
