Electrical Power Systems Manager

The role involves leading the design, analysis, and testing of electrical power systems for satellites and space missions. This requires developing a deep understanding of satellite power generation, energy storage, and power conversion to meet stringent reliability, efficiency, and durability standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and Analysis: Develop and optimize satellite power systems, including solar array sizing, energy storage (batteries), power conversion, and distribution.
  • Predictive Maintenance: Perform detailed power budget analyses to ensure the satellite's power subsystem can meet mission demands under various scenarios, including worst-case conditions.
  • Component Selection: Develop, select, and test power components such as solar cells, battery systems, power distribution units (PDUs), and voltage regulators for space environments.
  • System Integration: Conduct system-level modeling, simulation, and optimization of the satellite's electrical power system (EPS) using tools like MATLAB, Simulink, PSpice, or similar.
  • Environmental Testing: Supervise the execution of environmental and functional testing, including thermal, vacuum, and vibration tests, to validate power subsystem performance under space conditions.
  • Troubleshooting: Provide technical leadership in satellite power system fault management, redundancy planning, and failure analysis during both the design and operational phases.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams, including systems engineering, thermal engineering, and mission operations, to meet project timelines and mission requirements.
Requirements and Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • 6-7 years of experience in satellite power system design, development, or related electrical engineering roles, with a focus on space applications.
  • Strong expertise in satellite power generation, energy storage, power conversion, and distribution.
  • Proficiency with power system simulation tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, PSpice, or equivalent.
  • In-depth understanding of the challenges associated with power systems in the space environment, including radiation effects, thermal management, and system reliability.
  • Hands-on experience in environmental testing of satellite power systems, including thermal-vacuum, vibration, and radiation testing.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and regulations (e.g., NASA, ESA).
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams and manage projects, ensuring timely delivery of technical milestones and overall system performance.
