Lead Database Administrator

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Database Administrator to manage our team's database infrastructure.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in PostgreSQL, with at least 7 years of hands-on experience in production environments. They should have deep knowledge of PostgreSQL internals, architecture, and tuning, as well as proven experience with pgBackRest, Barman, pg_basebackup, and pg_dump.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing HA and replication solutions, including Patroni and repmgr, and will have hands-on experience with PITR, disaster recovery, and cluster rebuilds.

They should also have proficiency in Linux/Unix environments, shell scripting, and automation, as well as solid understanding of database security and compliance best practices.

A strong troubleshooting skillset and experience handling critical incidents is essential, along with the ability to monitor and optimize performance, tune queries and indexes, and manage vacuuming and bloat.

The Lead Database Administrator will also be responsible for implementing pooling (PgBouncer) and maintaining robust monitoring and alerts, as well as diagnosing and recovering from cluster corruption using advanced tools and procedures.

Additionally, they will plan and execute major upgrades, cross-version and cross-platform migrations, ensuring minimal downtime and data integrity.

A strong hands-on experience with AWS PostgreSQL services like RDS and Aurora is required, including parameter groups, snapshot management, performance insights, and multi-AZ failover.

Experience with monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana, or similar) is a plus, as is good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a 24x7 production support environment.

The Lead Database Administrator will also mentor junior DBAs and conduct knowledge-sharing sessions, maintain SOPs, runbooks, and knowledge base articles, automate routine tasks and checks using scripts or scheduling tools, and ensure business continuity.

In addition to these responsibilities, the Lead Database Administrator will also be responsible for MySQL DBA tasks, including setting up and troubleshooting MySQL replication, managing MySQL users, roles, and permissions, and performing MySQL backup and restore operations.
