Buying Manager Position

This role is responsible for overseeing all aspects of buying merchandise, collaborating with vendors for designated departments, and focusing on finding high-quality products at cost-effective prices.

  • The ideal candidate will contribute to the divisional Buying and Merchandising strategy and work within it at all times.
  • They will collaborate with the merchandising team to ensure that all deliveries meet assigned purchase orders.
  • The successful candidate will identify potential future product offerings through thorough research on customer needs and emerging trends.
  • They will develop pricing strategies for various product lines in collaboration with the marketing department and management.
  • The Buying Manager will plan product sourcing to meet customer requirements and maximize current sourcing channels while identifying new opportunities.
  • Supporting negotiations and working with suppliers to achieve optimal costs and margins are key responsibilities.
  • The role involves working closely with designers on style development, design research trips, fabric advice, and informing best-seller styles for future designs.
  • The Buying Manager will manage stock, style options, quantities, promotions, and markdowns in collaboration with merchandising.
  • Tracking competitor activities through market research to understand trends, forecasting, color, and fabric options is a crucial aspect of the role.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Product presentation, packaging, and development, as well as promotional planning.
  • Vendor identification and development.
  • Obtaining range merchandise after effective negotiation.
  • Collaborating with marketing and design to develop visual merchandising promotions aligned with theme and product launches.
  • Ensuring timely delivery of samples by vendors.
  • Setting quality standards for merchandise with QA.
  • Reconciling store plans and fixing departmental financial plans.
  • Conducting annual reviews of supplier performance with QA.
  • Pursuing and recovering money due from vendors resulting from performance penalties or markdown and promotional contributions.
