Sr. Software Architect for Scalable Backend Systems

We are seeking a highly skilled Sr. Software Architect to take full ownership of designing and managing the backend architecture for a scalable web/mobile application. This role demands expertise with Node.js, Firebase, and MongoDB, focusing on building reliable, high-performance backend solutions for user-centric products.

  • Responsibilities:
  • Owning the entire backend architecture for a scalable app, from planning to deployment, requires strong leadership skills and technical expertise.
  • Developing user authentication and authorization using industry best practices (JWT, OTP-based login, session management) is crucial for secure user experiences.
  • Implementing logic, user discovery algorithms, preference-based filters in the backend ensures seamless user interactions.
  • A robust chat and messaging system with Firebase for real-time messaging, delivery/read receipts enhances user engagement.
  • Integrating Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) for push notifications (iOS + Android) keeps users informed.
  • Designing and managing MongoDB schema optimized for high-performance matchmaking and chat use cases improves data efficiency.
  • Ensuring secure API access using HTTPS and role-based access protects sensitive data.
  • Handling media uploads securely via cloud storage maintains user trust.
  • Implementing analytics hooks for key user actions and behavior tracking informs product decisions.
  • Building admin APIs for user moderation, reporting, and flagging systems supports effective user management.
  • Monitoring and maintaining API performance, database health, error logs, and uptime metrics ensures optimal system operation.
  • Collaborating with DevOps to set up CI/CD, monitoring, and auto-scaling backend infrastructure streamlines development processes.
  • Managing environment configurations securely with secrets handling prevents security breaches.
  • Building fallback systems to handle network failure, retries, message queueing if needed guarantees high availability.
  • Writing clean, modular, and testable code with unit/integration tests for critical backend logic ensures quality and reliability.
  • Communicating and documenting API contracts clearly for frontend consumption fosters effective collaboration.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3+ years' experience in backend development with Node.js, Firebase, and MongoDB.
  • Strong understanding of token-based authentication and security practices.
  • Experience building scalable, real-time chat or messaging systems.
  • Familiarity with cloud storage and services.
  • Solid knowledge of CI/CD, monitoring, and application scaling.
  • Clear communication skills for technical documentation and cross-functional collaboration.
