Job Overview

The role of Category Manager is to lead the FMCG category team for a specified region. This includes managing a team of 8-10 members responsible for buying national and regional FMCG brands, conducting training sessions, and grooming team members.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the FMCG category team for the assigned region.
  • Lead a team of 8-10 members responsible for buying national and regional FMCG brands.
  • Conduct classroom and on-the-job training for team members.
  • Develop and groom team members reporting to you.
  • Closely work with various teams including store operations, supply chain, core purchase, and central purchase to maximize off-takes and ensure best promotions in stores.
  • Discuss and close monthly and quarterly plans with FMCG vendors, including demand planning, promotions, and smooth supplies to stores.
  • Responsible for training and grooming purchase officers and assistant purchase managers on the job and in-classroom trainings.
  • Solely responsible for ensuring availability of goods in DCs and stores day-in-day-out, apart from maintaining competitive pricing in the market.

Requirements

Must be a graduate or postgraduate/MBA with at least 10 years of experience in FMCG sales.

  • Experience in general trade will be preferred.
  • Must have managed a similar role before.
  • Knowledge of local language/location of posting required.
  • Good communication, negotiation, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills are essential.
  • Team management and training skills are crucial as you will be managing a large team and responsible for training and grooming them.

Working Conditions

Must be willing to travel across locations within the assigned region and pan India. The role holder will be based in the regional office with reporting to the Category FMCG Head at HO.
