Database Administrator

The role of a Database Administrator encompasses the planning, implementation, maintenance, and support of database systems. This includes ensuring data security, integrity, and availability.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Installation and upgrade of database servers
  • Apply patches or service packs for the database server
  • Configure high availability and disaster recovery solutions
  • Set up automated alerts to notify the team of any issues
  • Work on incidents, change tickets, and problem tickets
  • Setup maintenance plans for backups, database integrity checks, rebuild indexes, update statistics, and ensure all jobs run without issues
  • Troubleshoot locking issues, including deadlocks, blocking, lock timeouts, and resolve them
  • Participate in bridge calls to troubleshoot and resolve P1 (SEV1) and P2 (SEV2) incidents
  • Hands-on experience with always on and DB mirroring
  • Execute all changes to db schema and maintain a controlled development database environment
  • Collaborate closely with application developers to test, configure, and optimize servers based on application demands
  • Deploy database objects to integration, QA, UAT, and production
  • Provide day-to-day support for high OLTP HA of SQL Server databases - Identify root causes of production problems and work with developers to resolve such problems
  • Work on performance tuning like creating missing indexes
  • Willingness to work in 24X7 projects (shifts)
  • Experience in scripting using perl, power shell
  • Experience in AWS/Azure
