The role of a Mortgage Underwriter involves reviewing and analyzing mortgage loan applications to ensure they meet eligibility criteria, are accurate, complete, and compliant with internal and regulatory guidelines.

This position requires the ability to examine all documentation for accuracy and completeness, and to make independent decisions regarding the acceptance and risk of loans according to HUD, company, and investor guidelines.

Mortgage Underwriters work closely with staff and management to find solutions on escalated loans, and may be requested to make recommendations for improving Internal Audit's policies and practices.

To be successful in this role, you will need a degree or equivalent qualification, and at least 3 years of experience in conventional/government end-to-end underwriting. You should be well-versed in all 4C's of Underwriting (Asset, Income, Credit, and Collateral).

Key responsibilities include:

  • Reviewing and analyzing mortgage loan applications
  • Examining all documentation for accuracy and completeness
  • Making independent decisions regarding the acceptance and risk of loans
  • Working closely with staff and management to find solutions on escalated loans
  • Providing final approval underwriting of mortgage loans
