Operations Manager Job Description

In this pivotal role, you will oversee the coordination of logistics and operations to ensure seamless delivery of cargo to customers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate operational processes to guarantee timely and accurate delivery of goods.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, including those governing bodies like USA & Canada Customs/IATA/TSA.
  • Supervise team leaders and staff, regularly reviewing key performance indicators to ensure quality, timelines, and communication meet expectations.
  • Maintain full adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and identify areas for improvement.
  • Resolve escalations and exceptions during the shipment process, providing regular feedback and development sessions to enhance operational thinking and ownership within the team.
  • Identify inefficiencies and propose streamlined flows and better controls.
  • Collaborate effectively with service providers.

Performance Management Functions:

  • Establish goals and objectives for the team based on company guidelines and key performance indicators.
  • Utilize established financial tools and metrics to manage accounting matters and maximize revenue.

Team Leadership Functions:

  • Lead, motivate, and manage all operations teams, maintaining adequate staffing levels.
  • Conduct quarterly performance reviews, establish targets, and monitor staff performance.
  • Make decisions on job status and succession planning recommendations to HR.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with freight forwarding procedures and financials: TSA, CBP, IATA, FMC, BIS.
  • Bachelor's degree in any field (preferably Commerce, International Trade, Logistics).
  • 5+ years of industry-related experience required, with preference for freight forwarding.
  • 2+ years of team management experience, including managing team leads or shift managers.
  • Demonstrated leadership and people management skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, data integrity, and customer service mindset.
  • Highly motivated and results-driven individual with outstanding people skills.
  • Able to handle complex problems and multitask effectively.
