Database Engineer Job Description

At our organization, we are looking for a skilled Database Engineer to join our team. The Database Engineer will be responsible for designing and managing scalable database configurations, automating patch deployments and business-as-usual tasks, and optimizing data storage and retrieval.

We are seeking an experienced professional with expertise in database engineering, architecture, configuration, and performance tuning. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of SQL, index defragmentation, re-indexing, and client-server connectivity.

The successful candidate will also possess strong experience in automating business-as-usual tasks, replication monitoring, and backup/recovery scheduling. Knowledge of cloud platforms, shell scripting, and ITIL framework is highly desirable.

In addition to technical skills, the Database Engineer should have excellent problem-solving, team collaboration, and presentation skills. This role requires strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and manage scalable database configurations for high availability and performance.
  • Automate patch deployments and business-as-usual tasks using scripting languages.
  • Optimize data storage, retrieval, indexing, and query performance to ensure high efficiency.
  • Ensure data integrity, security, and compliance with industry standards.
  • Collaborate with application developers and system administrators to enhance database operations and interactions.
  • Design and implement disaster recovery strategies and cloud-based solutions.
  • Manage database migrations and upgrades.
  • Monitor performance, troubleshoot issues, and handle account management and security parameters.
  • Document database structures, SOPs, and maintain incident/crisis management processes.
  • Mentor team members and drive end-to-end project management using LEAN methodology.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or related field.
  • Minimum 2-12 years of experience in database engineering with expertise in architecture, configuration, and performance tuning.
  • Proficiency in SQL, index defragmentation, re-indexing, and client-server connectivity.
  • Strong experience in automating business-as-usual tasks, replication monitoring, and backup/recovery scheduling.
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms, shell scripting, and ITIL framework (incident/crisis management).
  • Excellent problem-solving, team collaboration, and presentation skills.
