Lead Mould Engineer Job Summary

This role involves overseeing the design, fabrication, and maintenance of molds used in wind turbine blade production. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical engineering and experience with mold design and fabrication techniques.

The job requires close collaboration with pre-fabrication and post-mold teams to achieve efficient workflows and optimal production results. Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail are essential for ensuring precise geometry and structural integrity in moulds.

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading design and fabrication projects, developing and implementing maintenance schedules, and calibrating molds and related equipment. They will also need to ensure seamless integration of molds into the blade production process and optimize mold processes for enhanced production efficiency and blade quality.

  • Mold Design and Fabrication:
    • Design and fabricate main moulds for wind turbine blades using CAD software and advanced molding techniques to ensure precise geometry and structural integrity.
    • Oversight creation of detailed mould specifications, including core material configurations and mould surface treatments.
  • Mold Maintenance and Calibration:
    • Develop and implement maintenance schedules for moulds, including periodic inspections, cleaning, and repairs to maintain mould accuracy and performance.
    • Calibrate moulds and related equipment to ensure consistent dimensional accuracy and optimal production results.
  • Process Integration and Optimization:
    • Ensure seamless integration of moulds into the blade production process, coordinating with pre-fabrication and post-mold teams to achieve efficient workflows.
    • Optimize mould processes, including alignment and resin flow, to enhance production efficiency and blade quality.
  • Quality Control and Assurance:
    • Conduct thorough inspections of moulds and finished blades using tools such as CMM and laser scanners to verify compliance with design specifications and quality standards.
    • Address and resolve any quality issues related to mould performance, implementing corrective measures to prevent defects.
  • Equipment Operation and Maintenance:
    • Operate and maintain mould fabrication and processing equipment, including CNC mills and injection moulding systems, ensuring proper functionality and performance.
    • Perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs to prevent equipment downtime and ensure consistent production.
  • Safety and Compliance:
    • Implement and enforce safety protocols related to mould handling, including proper use of PPE and safe operation of heavy machinery.
    • Ensure compliance with industry regulations and standards, maintaining accurate documentation and facilitating regular audits.
  • Process Improvement and Innovation:
    • Identify opportunities for process improvements in mould design and production, including the integration of new technologies and materials to enhance mould performance and efficiency.
    • Stay updated on industry trends and advancements to incorporate best practices and innovative solutions.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
    • Maintain comprehensive records of mould design, fabrication, maintenance, and performance data.
    • Prepare and submit detailed reports on mould-related activities, including any issues encountered and resolutions implemented.
  • Training and Development:
    • Provide training and support to junior engineers and production staff on mould design, operation, and maintenance.
    • Share expertise and knowledge to enhance team skills and overall production capabilities.
