Medical Coding Manager Position Overview

This leadership role oversees and manages a team of medical coders to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and adherence to industry best practices in medical coding.

Job Description

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in medical coding, strong leadership skills, and a deep understanding of healthcare regulations and compliance standards. The responsibilities include:

  • Supervising and mentoring a team of medical coders to achieve high-quality performance and productivity.
  • Monitoring and maintaining coding accuracy, compliance with regulatory standards, and adherence to coding guidelines such as ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS, and CMS regulations.
  • Reviewing regular audits of coded records to ensure accuracy and compliance, providing feedback and training as necessary.
  • Identifying areas for improvement in coding workflows and implementing process enhancements to improve efficiency.
  • Providing ongoing education and training to team members on coding updates, industry changes, and best practices.
  • Collaborating with stakeholders to resolve coding discrepancies and ensure seamless production.
  • Generating reports on coding productivity, accuracy rates, and trends, presenting findings to senior management.
  • Staying updated with changes in federal, state, and payer-specific coding regulations and implementing necessary updates.
  • Addressing and resolving escalated coding issues and denials efficiently.
  • Serving as the primary point of contact for clients, ensuring professional and courteous communication.
  • Maintaining strong relationships with clients by providing clear, accurate, and helpful information.
Required Skills and Qualifications

The following qualifications are required for this position:

  • Minimum 8+ years of hands-on medical coding experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
  • Experience with various coding systems (ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS, etc.) and knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
  • Proficient in medical coding software and healthcare management systems.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
