This role is responsible for ensuring the integrity and recoverability of data through effective backup, restore, and media management processes.
- Key Responsibilities:
- Performance monitoring and tuning of all SAN components, including storage systems, fiber switches, and backups.
- Installation and configuration of backup servers, tape libraries, and SAN clients on heterogeneous operating systems.
- Backup and restore operations according to data-center policies, including scheduled drill operations and on-demand operations.
- Analysis of OS and backup logs, alert logs, warning logs, and other trace files to diagnose problems.
- Maintenance of indexes and logs according to retention policies.
- Media management with proper retention periods, including maintaining records of tape media, backup databases, and logs recovery on server crashes.
- Daily health checks and troubleshooting of failed backups.
- Coordination with onsite teams and vendors to resolve tape library issues.
The ideal candidate will have experience working as a backup administrator on one of the following backup software: NetVault, Networker, Netbackup, or Veritas. The candidate should possess basic knowledge of popular operating systems such as Windows and Red Hat Linux.
- Experience with clustering technology (Linux and Windows)
- Knowledge of databases (MS-SQL, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, DB-2)
- Understanding of networking protocols and local area networks
- Knowledge of VTL, LAN/SAN clients, NDMP
- Ability to install and configure backup agents/APMs on servers, configure VTL, share drives, and SAN clients
- Working experience with enterprise backup software such as Netvault and Legato Networker
- Knowledge of barcode labeling and record maintenance
