Linux Software Repository Maintainer Job Description

Key responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring software repository integrity through updates, upgrades, and patches.

This is not a systems administration role. The ideal candidate will be able to manage software dependencies, create and provide software patches, maintain changelogs and documentation, provide bug fixes and debugging with gdb as needed, review changes and connect with upstream developers for solutions, and develop good troubleshooting skills.

Required Skills and Qualifications

The following technical requirements are essential:

  • Proficiency in Linux.
  • Bash scripting expertise.
  • C and Python programming knowledge.
  • Experience with build system tools like autotools, meson, ninja, cmake, make, pkg-config, scons.
  • Knowledge of CVS and Git.

Additional qualifications include fluency in English, strong verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
