Job Summary:

The Senior Sustainability Expert will provide technical guidance and lead complex environmental and social risks in new investments and select advisory engagements.

This role requires a minimum of fifteen years of experience in sustainability and E&S risk management, with international experience and expertise in the South Asia region.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical advice and lead complex environmental and social risks in new investments and select advisory engagements.
  • Lead E&S project teams for large and complex projects, ensuring effective E&S risk management support to teams and Management.
  • Support teams and clients to respond to stakeholder grievances and monitor environmental and social performance of portfolio projects.
  • Distill broader E&S risk trends in IFC's portfolio and provide input to portfolio analysis and trends.
  • Support the Regional E&S Manager in facilitating operations and coordinating with the DC based risk team CES.
  • Provide guidance and leadership through mentoring and coaching staff and consultants.
  • Participate in strategic decision making regarding IFC's role in advisory and upstream support to enhance E&S risk management performance.
  • Represent IFC at external technical forums and develop position papers.

Selection Criteria:
  • Advanced degree in environmental sciences, social science, engineering, or other relevant discipline(s).
  • Minimum of fifteen years of relevant professional experience in sustainability and E&S risk management.
  • International experience required, with experience in the South Asia region preferred.
  • In-depth experience in infrastructure and manufacturing sectors, plus experience in other sectors is also preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and concisely in spoken and written English.
  • Excellent interpersonal, listening and communication skills.
  • High personal integrity and emotional intelligence.
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a multi-disciplinary, multi-cultural team.
