Job Overview

  • This role is to work as part of an engineering team, taking a senior position in project execution.
Key Responsibilities
  1. Preparation and Review of Feasibility Study Reports: Prepare feasibility study reports to meet brief requirements in the agreed format and review with the Local Head of Structures.
  2. Collaboration with WSP Team: Work with the WSP team to assemble a design specification compliant with employer's requirements, agreeing its format and content, and monitoring and reviewing its preparation ensuring timely delivery.
  3. Scope of Works Agreement and Monitoring: Agree and monitor scope of works with the Local Head of Structures.
  4. Building Requirements and Purpose Definition: Define building requirements and purpose of use with the Local Head of Structures and the WSP team to allow detailed design.
  5. Detailed Design Execution: Carry out detailed design as per client requirements in accordance with standard codes, QA and technical review, and sign-off by the Local Head of Structures, including complex calculations and coordination issues.
  6. Production Review and Monitoring: Review and monitor the production of calculations, including QA, technical reviews, and sign-off.
  7. Information for Project Costing Preparation: Ensure that information for project costing preparation is completed in requisite detail and to deadlines, and keep the WSP team informed regarding design progress through explanation of design decisions.
  8. Project Contracts Documents Coordination: Coordinate project contracts documents (drawings and specifications) and review input from team members.
  9. Design Process Leadership: Lead the design process and encourage the rest of the team to deliver appropriate and cost-effective solutions to the agreed program.
  10. Document Control and Quality Assurance: Follow document control and QA processes relevant to project work, ensuring drawings, specifications, reports, and correspondence are issued and filed in an appropriate manner, and coach junior staff in their usage.
  11. Team Management: Manage a team of Engineers and Revit Technicians.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in the design of Building Structures with significant experience in a similar role or demonstration of a good track record.
  • Good presentation skills are required.
  • Full proficiency in technical structural software, such as RAM, CSC, ETABS, SAFE, and STAAD.
  • A sound understanding of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and Project is essential.
  • Fluency in English with an excellent understanding of technical terminology.
  • Good management, communication, and technical skills, and capability of working both within the team and independently, as dictated by workload.

Qualifications:

  • Possess a degree in Civil or Structural Engineering and membership to an accredited engineering body.
  • Desirable to have British Chartered Engineer status or equivalent.
  • Experience: 12+ years.
