Job Overview

The role of Claims Management Specialist is a critical position within our organization, responsible for handling all legal issues related to claims matters. This includes recovering outstanding freight, detention, and demurrage, as well as costs and expenses incurred by us that can be recovered from third parties.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Acknowledge receipt of claims within 24 hours of receipt and gather relevant documents.
  • Report to the Head Office on all claims within 24 hours and advise on the merits of the claim.
  • Monitor and assist in handling claims and court cases until closure.
  • Handle P&I related matters such as cargo claims and stowage.
  • Monitor and handle damages to our containers and cargo, including stevedore damages.
  • Recover debt in accordance with tribunal procedures.
  • Draft and vet service agreements, MOUs, and other business-related documents.
  • Implement and follow Head Office Legal Department procedures throughout our network.
  • Provide guidance to offices on handling legal matters and provide advice to other departments.
  • Handle loss of OB/L cases and apply Bank Guarantee procedures.

Key Performance Indicators:

  • Monitor and handle court cases, appeals, and writ petitions initiated by authorities.
  • Appoint and liaise with surveyors and outside counsels, negotiating reasonable expenses.
  • Recommend improvements to the claims handling process.
  • Monitor and report on case law impacting our scope of activity.
