Water Treatment Plant Manager Job Description

The Water Treatment Plant Manager will oversee the operation, maintenance, and quality assurance of the Demineralisation (DM) Water Treatment Plant.

Ensuring uninterrupted and high-purity water supply for boiler and turbine operations is a top priority. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and operating the entire DM water treatment process, including RO (Reverse Osmosis), EDI (Electrodeionization), Softener, Degasser Tower, and Mixed Bed units.

  • Operate and supervise the DM water treatment process to ensure compliance with plant safety, operational efficiency, and environmental regulations.
  • Conduct regular chemical analysis of raw water, DM water, condensate, and feedwater to maintain steam purity and avoid boiler/turbine scaling and corrosion.
  • Ensure optimal performance and preventive maintenance of DM plant equipment, dosing systems, pumps, and control panels.

Maintaining accurate records of chemical usage, test reports, and regeneration schedules is crucial for this role. The successful candidate will also prepare reports for internal audits, environmental monitoring, and compliance with CPCB/SPCB norms.

Supervising a team of water treatment technicians/operators is another key responsibility. The ideal candidate will conduct training and toolbox talks on chemical handling, safe plant operation, and emergency response.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 5-10 years of experience in DM plant operations in thermal or biomass power plants.
  • Bachelor's/Master's degree in Chemistry, Industrial Chemistry, or Environmental Science.
  • Leadership, documentation, and root cause analysis skills.

Key Skills & Competencies:

  • Expertise in DM water production and boiler feedwater treatment.
  • Strong understanding of steam-water cycle chemistry in thermal/biomass power plants.
  • Familiarity with laboratory instruments: pH meter, conductivity meter, spectrophotometer, silica analyzer, etc.
  • Knowledge of boiler chemistry guidelines (e.g., ASME, OEM specifications).
