Senior Department Manager

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Department Manager to lead our Clinical Operations team. This is an exciting opportunity to join a global contract research organization with a passion for scientific rigor and a commitment to transforming drug and device development.
Key Responsibilities- Supervise and manage a team of direct reports, providing guidance and support to ensure high-quality performance.
- Conduct detailed performance reviews and develop individual development plans to help staff achieve their full potential.
- Manage performance issues and resolve employee relations matters in a fair and timely manner.
- Measure and analyze key performance indicators for assigned staff, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions.
- Evaluate training needs and assist in the development and delivery of training programs to enhance staff skills and knowledge.
- Ensure compliance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) regulations and quality standards, overseeing GCP training and implementation within the team.
- Provide input on standard operating procedures and templates for project management and clinical operations staff.
- Support new hire onboarding, including conducting job-specific training and ensuring staff are equipped to perform their roles effectively.
- Maintain effective relationships with stakeholders, including management, clients, and sponsors, to ensure seamless communication and collaboration.
- Oversee GCP training completion, understanding, and implementation among direct reports.
- Identify and address GCP and quality issues through regular interactions with direct reports, developing and executing action plans to resolve these issues.
- Ensure training compliance with the training matrix and maintain up-to-date records.
- Contribute to the development of SOPs and standard plans/templates for use by project management and clinical operations staff.
- Deliver job-specific training to new hires, including GCP and quality-related topics.
- Hold direct reports accountable for GCP issue escalations to the management team, sponsor, or QA as applicable.
- Hold staff accountable for quality and compliance with client SOPs, Covance SOPs, and deliverable timelines.
- Counsel staff on maintaining effective relationships with stakeholders.
- Represent the department in cross-functional initiatives as assigned by management and act on behalf of the team when required.
- Communicate the status of assigned workload for metric reporting.
- Perform weekly reviews of direct report billable hours and associated utilization against the budget plan, escalating outliers for mitigation.
- Adhere to goals and objectives, engaging in resource management activities for direct reports.
- Assist with staff recruitment through screening and interviewing.
- Exercise financial authority in accordance with the current signature approval matrix.
- Accountable for expense management, expense report approval, and compliance with travel policy/home-based policy for direct reports.
- Liaise with relevant stakeholders in process improvement initiatives, including Six Sigma.
- Encourage the use of standardized processes and tools aligned with associated policies to ensure efficiency and productivity.
- Schedule quality reviews of reporting line work and ensure costs align with budget as required.
$120,000 per annum, depending on experience and qualifications.
