Primary Design Engineer

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Primary Design Engineer to join our team. As a primary design engineer, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality designs for HV substations, including preparing Single Line Diagrams (SLDs), layouts, and sections of switchyards, cable trenches, GIS/control building general arrangements, and more.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering high-quality primary designs for HV substations;
  • Preparing Single Line Diagrams (SLDs), layouts, and sections of switchyards, cable trenches, GIS/control building general arrangements, and other related tasks;
  • Designing earthing/lightning layouts and performing associated calculations;
  • Performing design calculations for bus bar sizing, short circuit forces, SAG-tension, cantilever strength, DSLP, grounding, auxiliary transformer sizing, battery and battery charger sizing, DG set sizing, UPS sizing, illumination, and load flow studies (MV & LV systems);
  • Preparing purchase specifications for HV equipment and reviewing suppliers' offers;
  • Fully responsible for analyzing and commenting on customer specifications, writing clarifications, and seeking amendments;
  • Generating BOQs for grounding, cable trays, LV power/control, clamps & connectors, busbars, and other related items;
  • Ensuring proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, Visio, and E3D;
  • Coodinating with clients, civil teams, project management, and other interfaces as agreed with the team leader;
  • Maintaining consistency of design on each contract by adherence to processes and procedures.

You must have:

  • 10-18 years of design experience within the General Arrangement drawing business;
  • Good knowledge of design experience within the HV substation business;
  • Fully conversant with the latest T&D standards;
  • Good understanding of relevant standards & specifications (like IS, IEC, IEEE, Electricity rules, SIGRE, CBIP, NBC, Fire safety, standard practices);
  • Fully conversant with Health and Safety standards including CDM regulations applicable to the design of HV substations;
  • Degree Qualified in Electrical Engineering.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field;
  • Professional certification in electrical engineering desirable;
  • Relevant industry experience preferred;
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit) and other relevant design tools.

Technical Competence:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint);
  • Familiarity with design software (e.g., Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks) an asset;
  • Basic understanding of electrical principles and circuit analysis;
  • Knowledge of health and safety protocols and procedures;
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and documents.
