Key Responsibilities:

  • Leads and manages the import ocean freight operations for FCL, LCL, and consolidation.
  • Develops pricing strategies, negotiates rates with carriers, and maintains strong relationships with shipping lines, co-loaders, and overseas agents.
  • Oversees pre-alerts, booking coordination, documentation, customs compliance, and end-to-end import shipment handling.
  • Calls upon internal departments (sales, documentation, customer service, and finance) to ensure timely cargo clearance and delivery.
  • Ensures compliance with all local and international import regulations, customs laws, and trade compliance requirements.
  • Develops and implements SOPs to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and turnaround time for import processes.
  • Manages and mentors the import operations team – allocates resources, sets KPIs, monitors performance, and provides ongoing training.
  • Monitors departmental P&L, ensures cost control, and prepares regular budgets.
  • Collaborates with sales and business development teams to identify new opportunities and grow the import customer base.
  • Maintains high standards of customer service, promptly resolving issues and ensuring consistent client satisfaction.
  • Generates regular MIS/reports for senior management on import operations, cost efficiency, and process improvements.

Required Skills & Experience:

Strong knowledge of international import practices, customs clearance procedures, documentation, and INCOTERMS.

Excellent leadership and people management abilities.

Strong negotiation, analytical, and communication skills.
