Job Role

The Import Ocean Freight Manager oversees the import ocean freight operations for FCL, LCL, and consolidation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop strategies to optimize freight costs, negotiate rates with carriers, and maintain strong relationships with shipping lines, co-loaders, and overseas agents.
  • Coordinate pre-alerts, booking coordination, documentation, customs compliance, and end-to-end import shipment handling.
  • Ensure timely cargo clearance and delivery by collaborating with internal departments.
  • Maintain compliance with all local and international import regulations, customs laws, and trade compliance requirements.
  • Develop and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and turnaround time for import processes.
  • Manage and mentor the import operations team – allocate resources, set performance metrics, monitor progress, and provide ongoing training.
  • Monitor departmental financials, ensure cost control, and prepare regular budget forecasts.
  • Collaborate with sales and business development teams to identify new opportunities and grow the import customer base.
  • Provide exceptional customer service, promptly resolving issues and ensuring consistent client satisfaction.
  • Generate regular reports for senior management on import operations, cost efficiency, and process improvements.

Required Skills & Experience:

A deep understanding of international import practices, customs clearance procedures, documentation, and INCOTERMS is essential.

Effective leadership and people management abilities are required.

Strong negotiation, analytical, and communication skills are necessary.
