
Senior Claims Manager

The ideal candidate for this role will be responsible for managing all legal issues regarding claims matters, including recovery actions for outstanding freight, detention, and demurrage.
- Acknowledge receipt of claims within 24 hours and gather relevant documents.
- Advise on claim merits and future steps.
- Monitor and assist in handling claims and court cases.
- Handle P&I related matters, such as cargo claims and damages to containers and cargo.
- Drafting and vetting various Service Agreements and drafting various MOU, Letters of Intent, agreements etc.
- Ensure procedures implemented by the Head Office Legal Department are followed.
- Provide guidance to branch offices on handling legal issues.
- Handle loss of OB/L cases and apply Bank Guarantee procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage legal issues relating to claims, including freight, detention, and demurrage.
- Acknowledge receipt of claims within 24 hours and gather necessary documents.
- Assist in handling claims and court cases.
- Handle P&I related matters, such as cargo claims and container damage.
- Draft and review service agreements and MOUs.
- Follow established procedures from the Head Office Legal Department.
- Provide guidance on legal issues to branch offices.
- Handle lost or damaged shipping documents and apply bank guarantees.
Performance Indicators:
- Monitor court cases, appeals, and writ petitions.
- Appoint surveyors and recommend expenses.
- Recommend improvements to claims handling processes.
- Report on Indian case law and regulations impacting CMA CGM.
Qualifications and Skill Sets:
- Graduate degree required.
- 5+ years experience in the shipping industry with cargo/marine claims experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Good analytical skills, reporting skills, and MS-office tools expertise.
