Job Title: Senior Legal Counsel

About the Role

The Senior Legal Counsel will be a key member of the legal leadership team, working closely with the Group Chief Legal Officer (GCLO) to provide strategic legal advice and support across various aspects of the organization. This role involves significant interaction with senior management, advising on a range of legal issues, managing external counsel relationships, and leading internal teams.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing Strategic Legal Advice: Offering guidance on a broad spectrum of legal matters, influencing strategic decision-making and ensuring alignment with business objectives.
  • Litigation Strategy and Management: Assisting in developing litigation strategies, managing external counsel relationships, and overseeing the legal aspects of corporate transactions.
  • Contract Negotiation and Administration: Leading the contracts function from the legal team, involving drafting, negotiations, and finalization of agreements with third-party vendors, suppliers, consultants, and other stakeholders.
  • Mergers and Acquisitions: Defending indemnity claims related to corporate funding and sale of assets transactions, drafting responses to indemnity notices, and supporting the Corporate Finance team in SPV governance.
  • Business Acquisition Support: Collaborating with the Business Acquisition team in participating in competitive bids, reviewing bid documents, conducting detailed risk analysis, addressing queries raised by bidders, and vetting bid proposals prior to submission.
Qualifications and Requirements

To be successful in this role, candidates should possess:

  • Law Degree: A law graduate from a reputable institution, preferably with work experience of around 15+ years in multinational companies, particularly in power, infrastructure, or energy sectors.
  • Commercial Awareness: Sound commercial understanding of power/energy business and government tenders/projects.
  • Team Player: Ability to effectively engage with internal and external stakeholders, demonstrating strong communication skills (written and verbal).
