Climate Adaptation Specialist

• Integrate climate adaptation priorities into national development frameworks, ensuring alignment with the Paris Agreement and international development goals.
• Conduct Climate Vulnerability and Risk Assessments (CVRAs) across sectors such as agriculture, water, health, biodiversity, and coastal ecosystems to inform strategic planning and prioritization of adaptation responses.
• Apply advanced climate models and risk analytics to support the development of robust adaptation strategies.
• Identify and size effective adaptation measures with clear outcomes, implementation timelines, and cost estimates to inform resource mobilization efforts.
• Evaluate techno-commercial feasibility of proposed interventions and map relevant financing sources to support the delivery of climate adaptation projects.
• Support the preparation of high-quality funding proposals for climate adaptation, including those targeting GCF, GEF, and other international mechanisms.
• Facilitate inclusive stakeholder consultations, engaging government agencies, civil society, youth, women, and vulnerable groups to ensure that adaptation strategies are socially inclusive and contextually relevant.
• Align adaptation strategies with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and national development plans to maximize impact and leverage opportunities for climate action.
• Contribute to the design of robust Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) systems in line with Enhanced Transparency Framework (ETF) requirements to ensure transparency and accountability in adaptation programming.
• Draft high-quality technical content for reports, presentations, and policy briefs tailored to diverse audiences to communicate complex climate adaptation information effectively.
• Provide evidence-based policy recommendations that strengthen climate resilience and adaptation integration to inform decision-making at all levels.
• Collaborate with public and private sector stakeholders to support the implementation and resource mobilization of climate adaptation initiatives.

• Advanced degree in climate science, environmental studies, sustainable development, natural resource management, or related discipline.
• 5+ years of experience in climate adaptation, resilience planning, or related fields, preferably with a focus on developing country contexts.
• Demonstrated involvement in developing or updating National Determined Contributions (NDCs), Low Emission Development Strategies (LEDS), or Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMAs).
• Proven ability to conduct CVRAs and translate findings into actionable strategies to support climate adaptation decision-making.
• Experience working with climate models and interpreting risk projections to inform adaptation planning and strategy development.
• Strong grasp of techno-commercial analysis, cost estimation, and financing pathways to support the development of bankable climate adaptation projects.
• Familiarity with climate finance mechanisms, including GCF, GEF, and bilateral donor programs, to leverage financing opportunities for climate adaptation initiatives.
• Effective communication, analytical thinking, and facilitation skills to engage diverse stakeholders and communicate complex climate adaptation information effectively.
• Exposure to UNFCCC reporting processes (BUR, TNC, BTR) is an asset.

• Prior experience supporting national governments in climate strategy development and capacity building.
• Background in climate and sustainability consulting or advisory roles to provide strategic guidance and support to clients.
• Knowledge of ecosystem-based adaptation, nature-based solutions, and coastal resilience approaches to integrate these concepts into adaptation planning and strategy development.
• Ability to integrate gender and social inclusion into adaptation planning to ensure that climate adaptation initiatives are socially inclusive and equitable.
• Skilled in translating technical analysis into policy guidance and investment strategies to inform decision-making and resource mobilization efforts.
