Key Responsibilities

  • Stay up-to-date on regulatory and compliance requirements, including Federal, State, Unemployment, and Local Tax.
  • Serve as a liaison between the company and payroll vendor tax services.
  • Research tax laws and provide guidance to set tax policies ensuring compliance.
  • Advise stakeholders on best practices and emerging issues related to tax.
  • Assist with data gathering and analysis for unemployment tax audits, proposed legislation, and transaction by company legal entity.
  • Serve as a subject expert on related policies in payroll and human resources information processing, including federal, state, and local payroll tax and garnishment, as well as system testing.
  • Support problem resolution for employees and business partners.
  • Ensure compliance and operational risk controls in accordance with HSBC or regulatory standards and policies.

Requirements

  • Minimum three to five years proven payroll tax and generalist experience or equivalent experience.
  • Working knowledge and experience in payroll areas, including United States of America payroll, international payroll, tax, and employee equity.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience, such as Accounting, Business Administration, or related fields.
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FCP) is a plus.
  • Ability to work well independently in a high-volume environment and good time management skills.
  • Strong analytical, attention to detail, customer service, problem-solving, organizational, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Excel, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUPs, and other formulas. SAP – Employee Central Payroll experience is preferred.
  • Good communication skills in spoken and written English.
