Job Description

The role of an Ophthalmic Assistant is to deliver primary eye care services in underserved areas. This involves conducting preliminary eye examinations, managing ophthalmic equipment, and supporting the Medical Officer during clinical activities.

Responsibilities:
  • Conduct visual acuity, refraction, tonometry, and color vision tests
  • Support the Medical Officer in diagnosing and treating eye-related conditions
  • Assist during minor ophthalmic procedures and provide pre- and post-procedure patient care
  • Counsel patients on prescribed treatments, use of spectacles, medications, and follow-up care
RequirementsQualifications:
  • Diploma in Ophthalmic Assistance or Ophthalmic Technology from a recognized institute
Skills:
  • Proficiency in basic ophthalmic tests and equipment handling
  • Good communication and patient counseling abilities
  • Ability to work in rural, remote locations
Work Environment

This role requires flexibility, frequent field visits, and the ability to work in challenging environments. The Ophthalmic Assistant will be based in Mobile Medical Units, delivering services directly in rural, tea garden, and hard-to-reach communities.
