The role of Legal Officer at SRM University involves providing expert legal counsel, ensuring compliance with laws and regulations, managing litigation, drafting and reviewing legal documents, and advising on policy development to safeguard the university's interests.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Compliance and Advisory Services
    • Deliver timely and accurate legal advice on various matters to the Vice Chancellor, Registrar, Deans & Directors, while ensuring adherence to all relevant laws and regulations.
  • Document Management and Contracts
    • Draft, review, and validate legal documents, including Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and standard agreements with external parties.
  • Litigation and Dispute Resolution
    • Coordinate with the university and external legal advisors and standing counsels on court matters, preparing responses to grievances and, when necessary, attending court proceedings.
  • Policy Development and Governance
    • Monitor and manage internal legal processes, update existing internal policies, and assist in formulating and implementing new ones.
  • Grievance Handling and Conflict Resolution
    • Serve as a member secretary for committees, such as the Committee Against Sexual Harassment, and handle internal disputes from a legal perspective.

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in law (LLB or LLM) from a recognized institution with Bar Council of India registration.

EXPECTATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • Minimum six years of experience is required as an advocate or working in the legal department of an organization preferably in the education sector demonstrating hands-on application of legal knowledge.
  • Possess strong analytical, negotiation, and drafting skills, along with excellent oral and written communication abilities. Knowledge of Telugu is essential.
