Design Manager – MEP Job Description

The role of Design Manager – MEP is to lead the design and coordination of Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing systems for high-performance data centre projects.

The successful candidate will have strong expertise in BIM workflows and detailed integration of ELV (Extra Low Voltage) systems with MEP services, ensuring seamless design execution from concept to construction.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the design development of MEP systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and ELV systems (CCTV, access control, BMS, etc.).
  • Ensuring full integration of ELV systems within the MEP design using BIM tools.
  • Managing clash detection and resolution using Navisworks or similar platforms.
  • Overseeing the creation and maintenance of coordinated BIM models for all MEP disciplines.

Additionally, the Design Manager – MEP will be responsible for:

  • Developing and implementing BIM Execution Plans (BEP) and MEP design standards.
  • Coordinating with architects, structural engineers, and ELV consultants to ensure design alignment.
  • Reviewing and approving technical submittals, shop drawings, and specifications.
  • Monitoring design progress and ensuring timely delivery of documentation.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • 10+ years of experience in MEP design and coordination, preferably in data centre or mission-critical projects.
  • Proficiency in BIM tools: Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD.
  • Strong understanding of ELV systems and their integration with MEP.
  • Experience in managing design-build projects and working with multidisciplinary teams.

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • BIM certification (e.g., Autodesk Certified Professional).
  • Familiarity with ISO 19650 standards.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
