**Solar Designer Position Overview**

We are seeking an experienced Solar Designer to join our design team. This role requires strong expertise in SketchUp and a design-oriented mindset to ensure efficient, practical, and aesthetically aligned solar solutions.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop accurate 2D and 3D rooftop solar designs in SketchUp.
  • Create detailed Sketchup models (solar panels, mounting structures, rooftop elements, obstacles) with precise dimensions.
  • Use the mounting structure library to design panel layouts that meet technical and structural requirements.
  • Identify and incorporate rooftop obstacles (water tanks, HVAC systems, vents) into the design.
  • Make design decisions such as:
  • Leaving appropriate gaps for cleaning and maintenance access.
  • Adding overhangs where necessary to maximize generation while ensuring safety and feasibility.
  • Create multiple views, scenes in SketchUp to effectively communicate design intent.
  • Optimize panel placement for maximum utilization of rooftop space while maintaining shading and clearance guidelines.
Requirements:
  • Proven experience in SketchUp solar design (rooftop PV projects preferred).
  • Strong understanding of rooftop solar project requirements, shading considerations, and structural layouts.
  • Ability to interpret technical inputs (site surveys, roof dimensions, structural drawings) into workable models.
  • Familiarity with solar mounting structures and ability to apply them within designs.
  • Attention to detail for accurate modeling and measurements.
  • Good visualization skills to create professional design presentations.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative on minor design decisions.
  • Strong communication skills to coordinate with internal teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with Sketchup and Skalion.
  • Knowledge of solar engineering basics (tilt, azimuth, orientation, shading, generation estimates).
