Job Title: Import Ocean Freight Manager

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the import ocean freight operations for FCL, LCL, and consolidation, ensuring seamless cargo clearance and delivery.
  • Develop effective pricing strategies, negotiate rates with carriers, and foster strong relationships with shipping lines, co-loaders, and overseas agents.
  • Oversee pre-alerts, booking coordination, documentation, customs compliance, and end-to-end import shipment handling to enhance efficiency and turnaround time.
  • Coordinate with internal departments (sales, documentation, customer service, and finance) to ensure timely cargo clearance and delivery, promoting a culture of collaboration and communication.
  • Maintain strict adherence to all local and international import regulations, customs laws, and trade compliance requirements to mitigate risk.
  • Develop and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to streamline import processes, increase accuracy, and reduce costs.
  • Manage and mentor the import operations team – allocate resources, set Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), monitor performance, and provide ongoing training to drive growth and excellence.
  • Monitor departmental Profit & Loss (P&L), ensure cost control, and prepare regular budgets to inform strategic decision-making.
  • Collaborate with the sales and business development teams to identify new opportunities and grow the import customer base, driving revenue growth and market expansion.
  • Maintain high standards of customer service, promptly resolving issues and ensuring consistent client satisfaction through proactive engagement and issue resolution.

Required Skills & Experience:

A strong understanding of international import practices, customs clearance procedures, documentation, and INCOTERMS is essential for success in this role.

Excellent leadership and people management abilities are required to lead and develop a high-performing import operations team.

Strong negotiation, analytical, and communication skills are necessary to build and maintain strong relationships with carriers, shipping lines, and other stakeholders.
