About Music Educator Role
Established in the field of special education, this role focuses on providing music lessons and adapting techniques for diverse learners. Our goal is to foster music as a means of self-expression and communication.
The successful candidate will design and implement engaging music lessons incorporating varying learning styles and abilities, including students with autism, physical disabilities, or emotional/behavioural challenges.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and Implement Music Lessons: Create tailored music lessons using assistive technologies, visual aids, instruments, and alternative communication methods.
- Promote Expression and Communication: Foster music as a tool for self-expression, communication, and emotional regulation.
- Therapeutic Integration: Collaborate with occupational therapists, speech therapists, and other specialists to integrate therapeutic goals into musical activities.
- Assessment and Reporting: Assess student progress using tailored benchmarks; maintain accurate records and contribute to IEPs (Individualised Education Programs).
- Classroom Management: Maintain a safe, structured, and encouraging classroom environment; manage behaviour sensitively.
- Enrichment and Events: Organise performances and school-wide musical events showcasing students' abilities.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Music or relevant field
- 3-7 years of experience working with children in a mainstream or special school
- Teaching qualification or experience in special education (Preferred)
- Knowledge of inclusive teaching strategies and adaptive music education
- Ability to play an instrument and facilitate group music singing
- Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
- Patience, creativity, and a positive attitude
