Job Overview:

The Girls' Education Program is a vital initiative that aims to increase years of schooling for girls and enhance their self-awareness, decision-making, and problem-solving skills. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in implementing this program at the field level, serving as the primary point of contact for girls, schools, and parents.

Key Responsibilities:Program Planning and Implementation:
  • Develop a thorough understanding of Room to Read's Girls' Education program design, objectives, and outcomes.
  • Implement program activities as per design, maintaining fidelity and taking corrective action when necessary.
  • Participate in program planning, collaborating with the Program Associate and other state-level staff.
  • Regularly attend weekly and monthly workshops to review and plan program activities.
  • Attend mandatory training sessions for Social Mobilizers.
Family and Community Engagement:
  • Understand social issues, safety concerns, and child protection issues affecting girl participants and be aware of available social safety net mechanisms, schemes, and referrals.
  • Organize and lead family and community meetings, consultations with school staff, parents, and community members/organizations as per design.
  • Seek opportunities for networking at the local level and create a resource pool for referrals.
  • Facilitate visits of donors, INCO, and SO team members.
  • Support SO/INCO team members in conducting research, surveys, studies, data collection, and baseline activities.
Working with Girls:
  • Conduct life skills sessions for 80 girls in batches of 20-25, as per prescribed session content and agreed plans.
  • Form Life Skills Clubs/Children Groups and facilitate regular meetings and discussions.
  • Distribute the newsletter GUPSHUP, initiate discussions, and hold follow-up activities.
  • Help girls develop wall magazines and write for the state-level Gupshup.
  • Mentor girls through group and individual sessions, recording each session and planning accordingly.
Setting Up Life Skills Centres/Gender Resource Centres:
  • Establish a Gender Resource Centre (GRC) for life skills in schools/community.
  • Ensure proper functioning and usage of GRC, as discussed with state GEP teams.
  • Ensure the space is clean, safe, and welcoming to girls.
  • Ensure the space is well-stocked with drawings, articles, and expressions of children's voices.
Home Visits:
  • Map data as per the risk and response protocol and make specific home visits.
  • Undertake regular school visits and handle critical matters that may emerge.
  • Organize/conduct programmatic activities at school and community, as per mutually agreed plans.
  • Manage relationships with schools, communities, and respond to issues that may arise.
Record Keeping, Reporting, and Monitoring:
  • Update records of attendance and parent meetings regularly.
  • Prepare and submit weekly plans during weekly reviews.
  • Timely record keeping, updating data, and sharing analysis of various parameters.
  • Filling up socio-economic profiles of girls.
  • Regular physical verification of girls on a sample basis.
  • Periodic cohort risk assessment and analysis, flagging issues of concern.
  • Identify case studies of girls, schools/communities, and best practices.
  • Maintain a stock register at school/centre level.
  • Provide a list of materials required for girls to supervisors.
Qualifications:Required:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Education/Social Sciences or equivalent/higher.
  • Minimum experience of 2 years in the education/development sector.
Preferred:
  • Master's Degree in Education/Social Sciences or equivalent preferred.
  • Counseling diploma and/or experience in mentoring/counseling issues.
  • Experience working on life skills/gender/adolescents.
  • Strong planning and project implementation skills.
  • Ability to work in remote areas and travel to communities for meetings.
  • Ability to work effectively with schools and communities.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills and a team player.
