Job Overview

  • Our organization seeks an experienced Database Administrator to lead the reliability, performance, and scalability of our database infrastructure.

Responsibilities:

  • Database Infrastructure Management: Ensure the optimal operation and efficiency of our database systems.
  • Collaboration: Work with application teams to integrate solutions seamlessly with our database systems.
  • Best Practices: Analyze and implement best practices for supported datastores (Primarily MySQL & PostgreSQL).
  • Database Security: Develop and enforce best practices for database security, backup, and recovery.
  • Performance Optimization: Monitor and optimize database metrics to achieve objectives.
  • Database Expertise: Provide database expertise to engineering teams through reviews of database migrations, queries, and performance optimizations.
  • Infrastructure Automation: Automate database infrastructure and provide self-service tools to support engineering.
  • On-Call Support: Participate in on-call rotations with the team to ensure timely issue resolution.
  • Documentation: Document actions to turn learnings into repeatable actions and automation.
  • System Monitoring: Perform regular system monitoring, troubleshooting, and capacity planning to ensure scalability.
  • Documentation Maintenance: Create and maintain documentation on database configurations, processes, and procedures.

Requirements

  • At least 4-8 years of experience running MySQL/PostgreSQL databases in large environments.
  • Awareness of cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP).
  • Knowledge of MySQL/PostgreSQL internals.
  • Knowledge of load balancing solutions like ProxySQL to distribute database traffic efficiently.
  • Knowledge of tools and methods for monitoring database performance.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively within cross-functional teams.

The Nice-to-Haves

  • Knowledge of caching (Redis / Elasticache).
  • Knowledge of scripting languages (Python).
  • Knowledge of infrastructure automation (Terraform/Ansible).
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.
