System Administrator Job Description

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Manage and maintain databases, ensuring optimal performance through regular checks and adjustments.
  • Troubleshoot database issues, including metadata locks, slow queries, replication lag, and implement optimizations.
  • Oversee Linux server administration: user management, process monitoring, cron jobs, package updates, and resource allocation.
  • Develop and execute backup and recovery processes using tools like mysqldump or Percona XtraBackup.
  • Perform routine maintenance, upgrades, and security enhancements for MySQL and Linux environments.
  • Resolve technical support requests; escalate complex issues with thorough analysis.
  • Participate in disaster recovery drills, capacity planning, and system audits to ensure business continuity.
  • Maintain runbooks, SOPs, and knowledge base documentation to facilitate team collaboration and efficiency.
Required Skills and Qualifications

For this position, you should have:

  • Strong database management skills, particularly with MySQL.
  • Experience with Linux server administration and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of backup and recovery tools and processes.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and analytical abilities.
