Key Performance Indicators for a CAE Engineer

The role of a CAE engineer is crucial in the development and production of vehicles. A CAE engineer is responsible for simulating various aspects of vehicle design and performance, including crash tests and durability analysis.

To excel in this position, you should have a strong foundation in mechanical engineering principles and be proficient in using computer-aided engineering tools such as ANSA, LSDyna, Abacus, and Animator/Hyperworks.

Some key responsibilities of a CAE engineer include:

  • Developing and maintaining finite element models (FEM) for various applications, including durability analysis and crash testing.
  • Performing full vehicle crash simulations and durability loadcase simulations using relevant tools.
  • Working effectively in cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality results on time.
  • Ability to work independently or with minimal support to deliver FEM setup to load case Analysis report.

Education-wise, a bachelor's or master's degree in mechanical or automobile engineering is preferred. Additionally, 3 to 6 years of hands-on experience in meshing, module build for crash &/ durability, high-speed crash analysis &/durability anaysis is required.

Other essential requirements include a strong understanding of body-in-white (BIW) manufacturing processes such as stamping, spot welding, assembly, material models, and physics of crash &/durability. Having excellent analytical skills and being detail-oriented will also help you succeed in this role.
