The WSP Aviation team is seeking a seasoned Airfield Design Expert to spearhead our Indian office and lead the growth of the GCC Airfield Engineering Team. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering airfield civil engineering design and maintenance projects through various stages of design from feasibility/ option studies to detailed design and onto construction for clients worldwide.

CORE Functions

The ideal candidate will:

  • Lead airfield design teams in delivering complex projects with high levels of technical precision.
  • Take ownership of project delivery while providing leadership and guidance to junior team members, including planning their work and managing multiple technical engineering projects.
  • Prepare technical reports, calculations, drawings, and specifications related to airfield engineering projects in compliance with international standards.
  • Participate in technical design reviews to meet quality management requirements.
  • Actively contribute to design development and provide technical input throughout the full design process.
  • Effectively communicate and coordinate designs with team members, industry partners, and clients.
  • Identify and manage design risks, issues, and RFIs.
  • Support Project Managers in monitoring project progress and contributing to the development of project controls.
  • Implement technical quality requirements, address project briefs, and meet client deadlines.
  • Serve as a role model, line manager, and mentor for other staff.
  • Promote excellent health and safety practices in design.

Qualifications and Work Experience

The successful candidate should possess sound technical abilities and experience in Civil Engineering projects at airports. A degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent qualification is required.

Minimum Requirements

  • 10 years of experience in civil infrastructure design at airports.
  • Civil engineering experience working on large, technically complex airport projects from concept to detailed design and construction support.
  • Experience managing engineering professionals in delivering technical aviation projects.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills when interacting with team members, industry partners, and clients.
  • Competent self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as part of a team, to meet business objectives worldwide.
  • Ability to thrive in fast-paced environments with strict deadlines.
  • Experience with international airfield design standards such as ICAO and FAA.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and relevant airfield engineering design software packages.
  • Microsoft Office proficiency (Word, Excel, Outlook).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Civil Engineering Degree or equivalent relevant qualification.
  • Chartered or Incorporated Status (MICE, MCIHT or equivalent) or equivalent demonstrable experience.
  • Knowledge and understanding of construction contracts such as NEC 4.
