Lead Mechanical Design Engineer

We seek a highly skilled mechanical design engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have expertise in designing plumbing systems, performing calculations, and developing layouts.

The selected individual will collaborate with other disciplines, including electrical, structural, and architectural engineers, to develop designs that meet project specifications.

Additionally, the successful candidate will have experience with LEED and sustainable design projects, as well as proficiency in BIM tools like Revit and Navisworks.

• Design of Plumbing Systems: Develop appropriate plumbing systems for the project, including domestic water, sanitary, storm water, hot water, and gas systems.
• Performing Calculations: Perform calculations as directed by senior engineers to ensure accuracy and compliance with safety standards.
• Plumbing System Layouts: Create plumbing system layouts, including pipe sizing and equipment selection.
• Knowledge of International Plumbing Codes: Possess knowledge of international plumbing design codes and apply them to project requirements.
• BIM Environment: Work effectively in a BIM environment, utilizing tools like Revit and Navisworks to collaborate with other disciplines.
• Collaboration with Other Disciplines: Collaborate with other in-house disciplines, such as electrical, structural, and architectural engineers, to ensure coordinated project delivery.
• LEED and Sustainable Design Projects: Have experience with LEED and sustainable design projects, applying principles of energy efficiency and indoor air quality.

• HVAC Design: Conduct heat load calculations using tools like HAP to determine heating and cooling requirements for buildings.
• HVAC System Design: Design HVAC systems, including water-cooled and air-cooled chiller plants, Variable Refrigerant flow (VRF) systems, Direct Expansion (DX) systems, and more.
• Equipment Selection: Select equipment, such as chillers, cooling towers, VRF systems, fan coil units, air handling units (AHUs), fans, and DX units, based on project specifications.
• Ventilation Requirements: Calculate ventilation requirements, pressurization needs, smoke management systems, pump head calculations, external static pressure, and size ducts and pipes.
• Air Distribution Components: Select air distribution components, like Variable Air Volume (VAV) boxes, grilles, diffusers, louvers, and more.
• HVAC Designs with Other Disciplines: Coordinate HVAC designs with other disciplines, ensuring integration and compliance with project requirements.
• International Codes and Standards: Apply knowledge of international codes and standards, such as ASHRAE, AHRI, CIBSE, HTM, ASPE, and more, in HVAC system design.
• Planning and Designing HVAC Systems: Plan and design various HVAC systems, considering energy efficiency, sustainability, and indoor air quality.
• BIM Tools: Be proficient in Building Information Modelling (BIM) tools, like Navisworks and BIM Collaboration (BIM 360).
• Design Reports and Specifications: Prepare design reports, specifications, take-off sheets, and bill of quantities (BOQ) for HVAC systems.
• Meetings and Collaboration: Attend meetings with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and collaborate with various disciplines to ensure coordinated project delivery.
• Active Participation in Project Meetings: Actively participate in project meetings, providing technical insights and resolving engineering issues as they arise.

• Firefighting Systems Design: Design fire protection systems, including sprinkler systems, fire pumps, and hydrants, according to national and international codes, such as NFPA, British Standards, and local regulations.
• Hydraulic Calculations: Perform hydraulic calculations for sprinkler systems, ensuring proper coverage and compliance with safety standards.
• Fire Detection and Alarm Systems: Design and layout fire detection and alarm systems, ensuring integration with other building services.
• Review of Fire Protection System Submittals: Review fire protection system submittals and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
• Coordination with Authorities: Coordinate with fire protection authorities and building inspectors for approval and compliance checks.

• Education: Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
• Experience: 8-15 years of experience in plumbing/HVAC & firefighting.
