Job Title: Head IP – Risk and Protection

 

Educational Qualifications:

  • Postgraduate qualification in Mechanical or Electronics Engineering, Automotive or Material Science.

Additional Qualification:

  • A WON certificate will be advantageous.

Experience:

  • At least 18 years of experience in IP legal risk management and protection.

Purpose of the Role:

  • Review NPD designs to identify potential areas for IP legal risk and develop strategies for mitigation.
  • Conduct Freedom to Operate (FTO) searches and analyze search results to inform IP protection decisions.
  • Perform advanced technology analysis, including competitive intelligence and design IP protection across business clusters.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Drive IP culture by reviewing designs for IP risks and initiating actions to de-risk designs/products.
  2. Conduct patent and competitor portfolio analysis using IT tools and data analytics for effective search and analysis of IP.
  3. Work closely with IP attorneys and legal associates to review and recommend FTO decisions for IP tests.
  4. Plan and conduct Bill of Materials (BOM) FTO reviews for New Product Development (NPD) at product level across automotive technology domains.
  5. Implement best-in-class practices, standardize processes, and enhance productivity through digitalization.
  6. Release periodic IP alerts and manage projects/business clusters independently.
  7. Conduct FTO and state-of-art search analysis on long-range products/advanced technologies and trigger timely protection of all forms of IP across major global jurisdictions.
  8. Be well-versed with industry best practices and perform searches across multiple jurisdictions.
  9. Review and resolve claim interpretation issues in FTO with stakeholders and liaison with legal teams for effective disposal.
  10. Maintain confidentiality of IP matters and systematically docket records.

Qualification in IP Law is highly desirable. A WON certificate will be advantageous.
