Job Title: Senior Mechanical Design Leader

The ideal candidate for this position will possess strong technical expertise, excellent problem-solving skills, and leadership ability to guide a small team of engineers.

About the Role:

This senior-level mechanical design leader will be responsible for driving end-to-end product design and development from concept stage through to production release and market launch.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead complete mechanical design and development lifecycle, including concept design, prototyping, design validation, tooling, and product launch.
  • Translate customer/market requirements into innovative and manufacturable product designs.
  • Develop detailed 3D CAD models and 2D drawings in SolidWorks with full GD&T and tolerance stack-up.
  • Perform design calculations, DFMEA, and tolerance analysis for robust product performance.
  • Design products in plastics (injection moulding), sheet metal, die-casting, and machining.
  • Drive material selection based on performance, regulatory compliance, and cost.
  • Ensure manufacturability, assembly efficiency, and cost optimization.
  • Hands-on experience with 3D printing and rapid prototyping to validate form, fit, and function.
  • Build and test prototypes to identify design gaps early in the cycle.
  • Design products with proper thermal management (passive cooling, heatsinks, venting, etc.).
  • Perform preliminary structural analysis, drop, and reliability considerations.
  • Define and execute test protocols for functional verification.
Team Leadership & Collaboration:
  • Lead and mentor a small team of 2–3 mechanical engineers, providing technical guidance and design reviews.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with electrical, firmware, quality, sourcing, and manufacturing teams.
  • Work with vendors for prototyping, tooling, and production ramp-up.
  • Review vendor DFM feedback and ensure alignment with quality and performance requirements.
  • Support project planning, timelines, and deliverables.
  • Prepare and maintain engineering documentation: BoM, ECNs, ECOs, DHF/Design history, PLM updates.
Requirements:
  • 8–10 years of mechanical product design & development (NPD) experience.
  • Mechanical Engineering , Industrial Engineering or STEM degree.
  • Strong background in consumer electronics, or similar domain experience is preferred.
  • SolidWorks CAD expertise with simulation exposure (thermal/structural FEA preferred).
  • Proven ability to deliver end-to-end product designs from concept to market.
  • Experience in leading a small team (2–3 engineers).
  • Excellent problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills.
