Climate Adaptation Expert

This position is responsible for integrating adaptation priorities into national climate frameworks, ensuring alignment with the Paris Agreement and national development goals.

  • We are looking for a Climate Adaptation Expert who can conduct Climate Vulnerability and Risk Assessments (CVRAs) across sectors such as agriculture, water, health, biodiversity, and coastal ecosystems to inform strategic planning and prioritization of adaptation responses.
  • The ideal candidate will apply climate models and risk analytics to identify and size adaptation measures with clear outcomes, implementation timelines, and cost estimates, as well as evaluate techno-commercial feasibility of proposed interventions and map relevant financing sources.
  • S/he will also support the preparation of funding proposals for climate adaptation, including those targeting GCF, GEF, and other international mechanisms, and facilitate inclusive stakeholder consultations, engaging government agencies, civil society, youth, women, and vulnerable groups.
  • The Climate Adaptation Expert will align adaptation strategies with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and national development plans, contribute to the design of Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) systems in line with Enhanced Transparency Framework (ETF) requirements, and draft technical content for reports, presentations, and policy briefs tailored to diverse audiences.
  • Additional responsibilities include providing policy recommendations that strengthen climate resilience and adaptation integration, collaborating with public and private sector stakeholders to support implementation and resource mobilization, and contributing to the development of climate-resilient infrastructure and community-based projects.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • An advanced degree in climate science, environmental studies, sustainable development, natural resource management, or related discipline is required.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in climate adaptation, resilience planning, or related fields, preferably with demonstrated involvement in developing or updating NDCs, LT-LEDS, or NAPs, particularly in developing country contexts.
  • The ideal candidate should have proficiency in conducting CVRAs and translating findings into actionable strategies, experience working with climate models and interpreting risk projections, strong grasp of techno-commercial analysis, cost estimation, and financing pathways, familiarity with climate finance mechanisms such as GCF, GEF, and bilateral donor programs, effective communication, analytical thinking, and facilitation skills.
  • Prior experience supporting national governments in climate strategy development, background in climate and sustainability consulting or advisory roles, knowledge of ecosystem-based adaptation, nature-based solutions, and coastal resilience approaches, ability to integrate gender and social inclusion into adaptation planning, and skilled in translating technical analysis into policy guidance and investment strategies are considered advantages.
