Job Overview

The Accessibility Specialist is a dedicated professional responsible for ensuring the accessibility of various digital platforms, including websites, portals, LMS, documents, and multimedia content. This role involves auditing, testing, and remediation to guarantee compliance with accessibility standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess: Conduct thorough automated and manual audits to identify accessibility issues.
  • Test: Perform real-user accessibility testing using screen readers, keyboard-only navigation, and mobile responsiveness.
  • Remediate: Provide clear, prioritized fixes and hands-on remediation support for PDFs, Office documents, videos, and multimedia content.
  • Guide developers on accessible coding practices, including ARIA, semantic HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Prepare VPATs/ACRs and client-facing accessibility conformance documentation.
  • Advise clients on ADA, Section 508, WCAG 2.1/2.2, and emerging US/state accessibility laws.
  • Support quarterly monitoring and ongoing compliance programs.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of accessibility standards, including WCAG 2.1/2.2, ADA Title II/III, and Section 504/508.
  • Hands-on experience with JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, TalkBack, Axe, WAVE, SiteImprove, and Adobe Acrobat Pro.
  • Proficiency in HTML5, ARIA, CSS3, and JavaScript (React/Angular a plus).
  • Strong documentation/reporting skills, including audit findings and VPAT/ACR preparation.
  • Experience supporting federal, state, or higher education contracts preferred.

Preferred Certifications

  • IAAP CPWA (Certified Professional in Web Accessibility).
  • IAAP WAS (Web Accessibility Specialist).
  • IAAP ADS (Accessible Document Specialist).
  • DHS Section 508 Trusted Tester.
  • IAAP CPACC (Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies).
