Project Controls Specialist

The Project Controls Specialist is a key member of the project team, responsible for planning, tracking, analysing, and reporting performance on projects of varying complexity and risk.

This role will lead on small project planning/controlling assignments, be part of a team on large projects/frameworks, and extract accurate information. The Project Controls Specialist works directly with the Project Manager/Project Director to define project goals and objectives, and recommend actions to improve progress and performance.

  • Contribute to the development of the project planning and controlling strategy, setting standards and procedures, monitoring and reporting at project/portfolio level, preparing relevant project control dashboards for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assist Project Managers and Project Engineers with estimates and plans for bid/tenders.
  • Assist Project Managers with producing the EAC and Report on progress and earned value, to support financial forecasting and corrective actions.
  • Monitor costs and manpower on a weekly basis, ensuring actuals are within budget and charged to the correct job number. Process cost transfers as required.
  • Provide appropriate planning advice and direction to project staff, subconsultants, contractors, and clients.
  • Facilitate effective planning of the works within the project team.
  • Deliver Period Programme Updates and input to project reports.
  • Deliver information regarding changes and delays that have impacted the programme on a period-by-period basis.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Proficiency in project controls tools, such as Primavera/Microsoft/other planning products (e.g. Primavera P6, Microsoft Project).
  • Understanding of Critical Path Analysis, Earned Value Techniques, and Basic project management skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of project planning philosophies, principles, practices, and techniques.
  • Proven experience in line management, mentoring, and developing team members, managing performance, and effective communication within the team.
  • Experience reviewing work completed by planners/controllers and ability to work in a team environment.
  • Experience working with international planning and project controls teams.
  • Ability to work in a team environment, with Team Leadership capability.
