Senior SQL Database Professional

Job Description:

As a Senior SQL Database Administrator, you will be responsible for installing, configuring, managing, monitoring, and troubleshooting SQL Server databases. You will work with various versions of SQL Server, from SQL 2005 to SQL 2022.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install and configure SQL Server databases, including service packs, cumulative updates, and hotfixes (GDR, QFE).
  • Patch and manage SQL Server builds, including hierarchy and clarity on SQL Build numbers and Internal Database build numbers.
  • Upgrade and migrate SQL Server databases from older versions to newer ones.
  • Configure linked servers between same or different SQL Server versions.
  • Set up contained databases and utilize them for effective migrations.
  • Design and implement backup strategies, including recovery models.
  • Fine-tune backups using encryption, compression, and special parameters.
  • Handle master, model, MSDB, TEMPDB, and resource database corruptions.
  • Configure HADR features like log shipping, mirroring, clustering, always-on availability groups, and replication.
  • Work with Windows Clusters, quorum, dynamic quorum, voting mechanisms, and failovers through Cluster Administrator and commands.
  • Manage advanced cluster scenarios, including failover, adding disks to existing instances, and patching clustered instances.
  • Configure Always-On Availability Groups on standalone instances across Windows Clusters in synchronous and asynchronous modes.
  • Handle advanced Always-On AG scenarios, including failover, adding new data/log files, lease timeouts, health check timeouts, and failure condition levels.

Mandatory Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of SQL Server architecture, T-SQL, triggers, and procedures.
  • Administration and configuration of HA/DR solutions, including clustering and Always-On Group.
  • Configuration and management of all types of replications and troubleshooting.
  • Patch management and Always-On AG scenarios.
  • Server capacity monitoring, analysis, and tuning activities.
  • Automation using scripts and tools for backup, monitoring, resource utilization, HA alerts, and capacity plan management.
